Indigenous Studies Courses at R. E. Mountain Secondary School
In March, the BC Ministry of Education announced a new Indigenous Graduation Requirement that will come into effect for the 2023-2024 school year. This requirement is part of the province’s Indigenous-specific anti-racism and discrimination strategy for the K-12 school system. It is guided by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and is an important commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in our community.
RE Mountain students will have several four credit opportunities to engage in learning to meet the new graduation requirements. These choices include:

English First Peoples Literary Studies + Writing 10 (4 Credits) | First Peoples Literary Studies + Writing 11 (4 Credits) | English First Peoples 12 (4 credits) |
English First Peoples English Literary Studies + New Media 10(4 Credits) | BC First Peoples 12* (Social Studies) (4 Credits) *Can take in grade 11 or in grade 12 |
